| Istiaen's clutch began to hatch in the early morning,
right on time, if not a little early, in fact. Lian was sent to record the
hatchlings' choices (no surprise there) while the half-grown Kortrvan trailed
after him. The young earth looked particularly excited to be watching this; Lian
did not fail to notice that the young lady Kortrvan had befriended was one of
the aspirants for the clutch.
The other two aspirants looked excited as
well, not to mention a little nervous. Some of the drak-knights had had
reservations about the former mob members, but thanks to High Prince Farai, they
were given no trouble.
Istiaen appeared from the Deep Cavern, nodding her
head solemnly. "It issss time. Come in."
They all entered the Deep Cavern,
where a trio of draklings were standing in a circle, eagerly awaiting the
aspirants.
The largest of the draklings was a sturdy, male desert drakling.
His two sisters were a female night, and a deep, blue-green water drakling, like
their mother. They all went to the aspirants as they appeared.
The big
desert grinned up at Nisk. "I think
you'rre interesssting. I'll come with you. I'm Bekenar."
The female night sat at
Anua's feet, eyeing her new knight
speculatively. "My name is Eitaren, Anua."
Was all she said. At Lian's feet, Kortrvan puffed himself up in pride as he
watched the pairing.
The final drakling didn't seem as interested in pairing
as her siblings had. "Can I jussst, ssstay here for a while? Without pairing?"
She asked her mother shyly.
Istiaen nodded and rose up to take her daughter
and inform the High Prince and Princess about her decision. Lian later got the
name of the drakling, Ystaren, when
he heard that the drakling would go to
Mirus to live.
But for now, the
draks' pairing was over, and the archivist and his drak went to congratulate the
new knights. |
