Lian was snoozing in the library when the hatching call came, and it came in the form of a palm slamming down into the table beside his head. The junior archivist jumped up in alarm, then wilted under his Master's stern gaze.
"You’re supposed to be in the Deep Caverns right now documenting the draklings' choices." The Master Archivist growled. "Kimechash has announced her eggs' hatching. Well, what are you waiting for? Get down there!"
"Y-yes sir!" Lian stuttered, gathering his books and pens together and practically running towards the caverns to escape his Master's ire. He grumbled irately as he took a seat by the door. The four aspirants were already waiting, the girl, the two boys, and the strange blue furry dragon as well.
He readied his pens and his paper to record the pairings, just as the proud mother entered with her four children. There was only one female, a dainty ore running eagerly ahead of her mother, while her three brothers--a desert, a mud, and a night--trailed behind.
The outgoing ore was the first to move, and she walked to the young girl, Lythia. "My name'ssss Leeyawsh!”"
The mud, meanwhile, was looking curiously up at the blue dragon, K'lemia. "You'rrrre funny-looking. I like you. I'm Shynnshaw."
The desert drakling was having a great time stalking around the caverns, until he bumped into Yzheie, and grinned up at him toothily. "Ssssorrrry about that. My name's Neeshaw."
The male night was more withdrawn, unwilling to leave his mother's side at first, until, with an encouraging nudge from Kimechash, he took a few tentative steps toward Greg. "Grrreg? Errr, my name'ssss Vorshaw." He purred contently as his new partner stroke his furry head.
All the pairings were duly recorded by Lian, and the young archivist set off back to the library, complaining about having to do all the gruntwork. Overall, however, the hatching was a success.
